What is a company to do?

  • First decide if you want or need to offer these benefits
  • Then decide what the budget is going to be
  • Structure your company's subsidy to promote uniformity of coverage and benefits
  • Realize that if you want to maintain any form of cost controls you must involve your employees
  • Educate all participants on not only the benefit structure but how the costs are shared
  • Never be afraid to tell the populace how much you pay for them to be covered
  • Never be afraid to make the participants - "participate" in the cost and operation of your plan
  • Never let the synonyms HRA and HSA be a taboo in your conversations
